Review Policy

Hey! Thanks for your interest in sending me your book. And thank you for taking the time to read my review policy! If I receive a request that does not fit within my policy, I will try to point you toward other book bloggers who might be better suited to your book. Please be careful to read my content standards at the bottom of the policy, as they trump everything else.

After reading my review policy, please feel free to contact me!

NOTE: As of July 2012 I am no longer accepting review requests from authors unless I know you or have worked with you in the past. Thank you.

What kind of books do I review?
I read both physical copies, and audiobooks. Squeaky Books focuses primarily on YA fiction, and here are my prefered genres:
  • Fairy tale retellings
  • Sci-fi
  • Dystopia
  • Fantasy
  • Horror
  • Paranormal
I not totally against, but less inclined to accept:
  • Contemporary Fiction
  • Romance
  • Chick lit
  • Historical Fiction
  • Middle grade novels
  • Anthologies
  • Religious titles
  • Nonfiction (with YA tie-ins. ie. The Hunger Games Cookbook)
What kind of books do I NOT review?
At this time I do not accept the following:
  • eBooks (I do accept electronic versions of audiobooks)
  • Self-published books
  • Indie-published books
  • Adult books
  • Nonfiction (with no YA tie-ins)
If you are a publisher or author that I have worked with before, I am willing to make exceptions to these rules.

Will I participate in a tour for your book?
I love to participate in tours! I think they're a great way to get the word out. However, I will not participate in any tours/promotional activities for a book unless I have already read it and enjoyed it, or if it is coming from a source I trust. If I have not worked with you in the past please do not ask me to interview an author, feature a guest post, or promote additional material, without offering a review copy of the book.

How quickly will I read your book?
I do have quite a pile of review books waiting to be read, as well as being a full-time student and holding multiple jobs, therefore I may not be able to get to your book immediately. Preference is given to books I have been given for a tour or books given to me by an author/publisher I am familiar with. Excluding those situations, I usually give books preference based on how excited I am to read them. If you need your book reviewed in a certain amount of time, please make that clear in your e-mail and I will be sure to let you know if I am able to meet that deadline.

What can you expect from my reviews?
Positive or negative, I promise that my reviews will be courteous and honest. I do not promise a "professional" dialect or style of writing. I am not a literary analyst, I review books for pleasure. My reviews are primarily my thoughts, feelings, and opinions, and as such I do not promise to remain "objective." I do follow fairly strict content standards, and will rarely positively endorse a book that does not meet those standards. However, as stated, I do promise to always remain courteous and honest and to never "attack" an author or their book. I post reviews on Amazon.com, GoodReads, and my blog.

Do I guarantee a review for every book?
I do promise to review every book I read unless I do not finish, or really dislike the book and feel that I could not write a helpful review. Chances are that if I really dislike a book, I won't finish it.

What are my content standards?
All of the above policies are subject to my content-standards. I will not read any book that has any of the following:
  • Explicit sexual activity (whether consensual or rape)
  • Extreme and unecessary profanity (I completely understand profanity under duress, but cannot abide casual use of the f*** word)
  • Cruelly bigoted plots and/or characters (if the point of your book is to express cruelty or hate to something/group/idea, I will not read it)
  • I am usually all right with violence and gore, so long as these standards are met
Again, thank you so much for taking the time to read my review policy. I look foward to hearing from you! Click here to learn how to contact me!
